Man who extorted $180 million from a foreign company was convicted in Astana

Astana. May 15. KazTAG — A fraudster who extorted $180 million from a foreign company was convicted in Astana, reports the press service of the city prosecutor’s office.
“A fraudster who demanded a large sum of money from a representative of a foreign company was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The culprit, posing as a freelance employee of a government department, demanded more than $180 million from the director of a foreign company. The fraudster tried to take possession of these funds, allegedly for the purpose of concluding an investment agreement,” the report said.
The prosecutor in court has proven the guilt of the convicted person.
He was found guilty of attempted fraud and incitement to give a bribe to persons holding a responsible public position on an especially large scale.
