People tend to eat less fish and seafood in Kazakhstan

Astana. April 25. KazTAG - People in Kazakhstan tend to eat less fish and seafood, reports the statistics agency.
“Kazakhstani people to tend consume less fish and seafood. In 2023, compared to 2022, there was an increase in consumption for the main food groups, except for bakery products and cereal products, fish and seafood, oils and fats,”  reads the report.
The largest shares of expenses for the purchase of food in household consumer spending, as in previous years, fall on meat and meat products (17%), bakery products and cereal products (7.9%).
The highest levels of consumption of meat and meat products are observed in Atyrau, Akmola regions, and Zhetysu region, and the lowest in Shymkent.
“On average for the month of 2023, consumption of certain types of food per capita was: potatoes - 3.7 kg; bread, first grade – 2.4 kg; beef – 2.1 kg; apples – 1.6 kg; granulated sugar – 1.5 kg; rice – 1.3 kg; milk – 1.1 l; kefir – 1 l; egg - 16.8 pieces; pasta – 0.9 kg; fresh or chilled fish – 0.8 kg; black tea – 0.1 kg,” reads the report.
