Deadly bus collision in Almaty: Defendant sentenced to eight years in prison

Almaty.  April 29. KazTAG – Defendant Darkhan Akhmetzhanov has been sentenced to eight years in prison in the case of a fatal traffic accident in Almaty.
“Found Darkhan Akhmetzhanov guilty of committing a crime under Article 293, part 1 “hooliganism” and sentence him to one year in prison. Find him guilty under Article 351, Part 3 “violation of rules ensuring the safe operation of transport, resulting in the death of people through negligence” and sentence him to eight years in prison,” reads the court’s verdict.
Judge Taken Shakirov noted that applying Article 58 of the Criminal Code of Kazakhstan on the absorption of a more lenient punishment by a more severe one, for the totality of offenses, a total sentence was imposed - eight years of imprisonment to be served in a minimum security institution.
Akhmetzhanov  admitted guilt only to hooliganism.
At the end of December 2023, a man hit a bus driver. The woman lost consciousness, causing the bus to hit a group of people at the bus stop. Three people died.
